🌍 Malawi and Finland – A Glimpse into Two Worlds

Background of Malawi

Malawi is a landlocked country in Southeast Africa, bordered by Mozambique, Zambia, and Tanzania. With a population of over 22 million, Malawi is primarily agricultural and has spent decades working toward economic growth despite facing major challenges like HIV/AIDS.

Despite these hardships, Malawi is known as the Warm Heart of Africa - and for a good reason! 💖Malawians are incredibly warm, friendly, and welcoming. Even though life can be tough economically, they often offer something rare in places like Finland: a genuine smile 😊 and time to chat – even with strangers!

Here’s a typical greeting exchange:

"Muli bwanji? - How are you?"
"Ndiri bwino, kaya inu? - I’m fine, thank you. And you?"
"Ndiri bwino, zikomo. - I'm fine, thank you."

👁️ Nkope School for the Blind – Real Inclusion in Action!

I had the chance to visit Nkope Community Day Secondary School in Mangochi. It’s a big school with around 1,500 students, and what makes it truly special is its boarding school for blind and low-vision children on the same campus.

This is real inclusion at work! 🙌

📝 How it works:

👩‍🦯 Students begin in a dedicated block using Braille machines >

➡️ Once ready, they join mainstream classes >

👨‍🏫 There are two blind teachers and special needs teachers >

🎓 Currently supporting 30 visually impaired learners.

🌿 MOET Collaboration

Last year, MOET (Mangochi Orphans Education and Training) hosted Nkope students for a permaculture workshop. 🌱 Hands-on learning in action!
